Together Forever

A design drama set in the future archive of an inter-generational household in 2035

Together Forever

Somewhere between exhibition, Brechtian drama and participatory performance, Together Forever transformed the Architectural Association gallery into the archive of an inter-generational home from 2035. A series of performances took the audience on a tour of the archive and to a dinner in order to uncover two narratives: the story of a domestic group in 2035 with all the tensions and conflicts stemming from multigenerational co-habitation and the story of an architect in 2070 who uncovers this previous narrative.

I: Now, in 2055, as architects and tenants, we have witnessed many housing forms emerge, mutate and be killed. When it comes to housing, plans can make us hopeful, offended, paranoid and angry - and now we need to be angry. We have come to the point where all typologies that have become normalised have mutated into spaces that embody inequality between generations and sustain transactions that favour the old and wealthy. With this archive, I want to decipher the shit conditions of the 2030s before we can start thinking about how to move towards a better future.

I: I think this is one of the more interesting elements in this archive. It’s both work in progress and a historical artefact. That alone tells you that, with all its faults and issues, this dom had potentialL: [to I] Yes, it’s my favourite piece also.[casually to an audience member] You know, my DNA is there as well, no?H: I absolutely love this piece. How old were you when you made it?L: I remember being 12 -H: I wonder, do you still feel like you’re part of it?I: //I don’t think it’s about that anymore We’re talking about the performative element in the house. This is why i like it. It’s architecture, design, history...it’s very brave
